Help Your Body to Heal Itself with Essential Oils

It has become a lot more common these days to see traditional allopathic treatments working in conjunction with alternative, non-traditional practices to treat the whole person instead of just the disease. In this way, patients and practitioners form a partnership whose goal is to treat the mind, body, and spirit, all at the same time.

Learning to address wellness in a holistic way, acknowledging root causes and corresponding healing tools, will help you achieve optimal health. How you feel physically, mentally and emotionally determines the state of your overall well being. Your body is capable of healing itself naturally and using the right support tools will help it to do what it was engineered to do.

Essential Oils is one of these natural tools that you can benefit from. They are plant based remedies, and have been used throughout the world for millennia. They are one of nature's most powerful support tools available to help your body heal itself. They are 50 to 70 times more powerful than herbs, so you really only need to use a small amount.

The overall quality of essential oils is very important when using them therapeutically. The most important factor when selecting essential oils is that they have been tested and certified to be pure, potent, genuine, and authentic.

So how can we use Essential Oils?

It is actually very easy, and we can add them in our daily lives and make them a lifestyle habit. There are 3 main ways to do it.

Aromatically
Essential oils aroma can elicit powerful physiologic, mental and emotional responses.
Add a few drops on your diffuser, smell it straight from the bottle, or place a drop in the palm of your hands, rub them together and then cup around the nose and mouth and breath in.

The best dosage for aromatic use is smaller dosesimplemented multiple times throughout the day. It is best to avoid having infants and young children inhale oils at a close distance, as it is harder to determine dosage.

Topically
Essential oils can be rapidly absorbed into the body. You can apply them directly to the area of concern, on reflex points or on the bottom of your feet, where we have lots of nerve terminations. Adding a few drops on your bath assists the topical and aromatic effects.
It is always recommended to dilute them first and make a patch test to make sure you are not going to have irritated skin. Diluting is also very good to cover more surface, and the effect is not going to be compromised at all, in fact it will prevent potential rapid evaporation. Use a natural carrier oil such as almond oil, hazelnuts oil , avocado oil, or fractionated coconut oil.
Always avoid sensitive skin areas such as eyes, inner years, genitals, and broken, damaged or injured skin. The appropriate dosage for topical use is different for each individual and should be tailored to their personal circumstances, being age and size the biggest considerations. A topical dose can be repeated every twenty minutes in an acute situation or every 2 to 6 hours as needed otherwise.

Orally
Without even thinking about it, we consume essential oils daily with our food. Fresh aromatic plants normally contain 1 to 2% by weight of volatile compounds or essential oils. When plants are distilled the properties are concentrated, so the oils are more potent than whole plant material thus small amounts should be use when taking them internally. One drop of essential oil can contain hundreds of compounds constituents and is very potent.

Essential oils are fat-soluble so they are readily deliver to all organs of the body including the brain. They are then metabolized by the liver and other organs. You can put a drop or two under your tongue, swallow a blend in a gel cap (specially recommended for warm oils like oregano and cinnamon), add to your water or a cup of tea, or even on your raw meals and salad dressings. This is the most potent method of use, so not only is proper safe dosing important, but excellent quality and purity is imperative. As the heat affects the compounds of the oils, is best to add them to hot preparations, after the heating process has occurred.  A common oral dose for an adult is 1 to 5 drops every 2 to 6 hours. It is best to avoid this method for young kids and babies.

Candida Infections (Candidiasis)

Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of a naturally occuring yeast (a type of fungus) called Candida. A moderate amount of candida naturally lives on skin and inside the body, such as the mouth, throat, gut, and vagina, without causing problems. Antibiotic use can greatly eliminate the bodies good or commensal bacteria an allow candida to overcrowd the gut. Candida feeds on sugars from alcohol, fruit and refined grains. Essential oils can help to reduce infections on the skin. Oregano taken orally while on a cleanse helps to elimiate candida. Candida doesn't develop resistance to oregano oil as it does to other antifungal agents. Take 1–3 drops daily of oregano oil in a glass of water. Tea tree, lavender, peppermint, cinnamon, geranium, orange, and ylang-ylang are also great to use in conjunction with dietary changes. Choose the blend that resonates with you!
